We want to give you the best at Chattanooga DBT

And that's why adherence to the model matters.  Don't settle for DBT-informed therapy.  We provide DBT in a way that conforms to evidence-based research, is adherent to the model developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan, and contains all the necessary components and organization to deliver DBT with fidelity to the model.   This makes your treatment more effective!  Anything less, is not DBT.

So what does it mean to have adherent DBT? I'm so glad you asked!  Adherence consists of a (1) once-weekly 1.5-hour skills training group, which works from the Linehan Skills Training Manual , (2) weekly individual sessions, (3) 24/7 availability for phone coaching with your individual clinician to aid in skills generalization to your life, and (4) your individual clinician’s participation on a DBT Consultation Team. These components must all be present to be considered adherent DBT. Further, research shows that the best treatment outcomes are from DBT that contains all four components. “DBT-informed” treatment is not the same as Comprehensive DBT. Treatment outcomes are not equivalent when only doing parts of the treatment. Finally, providing DBT is hard and requires a lot of advanced training and consultation.  Make sure that you ask if your therapist has been at least foundationally trained in DBT and is able to provide you with all the parts of DBT.

New Family Group

Do you have a loved one or family member that is navigating intense mental health struggles? Maybe a partner, spouse, child? Have you felt at times overwhelmed or frustrated with the challenges that come? We are so excited to be gathering interest for a new group! This will be focused on providing support and resources for family or loved ones of those who experience severe emotion dysregulation (ie. BPD, Bipolar Disorder, etc). We know it can feel overwhelming when you don't know how to best support your loved one as they navigate their own mental health journey. We would love your feedback on the details for this new group so that we can create an opportunity to support you in the most helpful way we can!

 Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, you will learn skills, apply them to current issues in your life, track your progress and enhance your motivation.  We do this by:

* Assessing and treatment planning

* Reviewing diary cards each session

* Conducting behavioral chain analysis

* Making sure that skills are generalizing to your life

* Monitoring your progress

* Collaboratively creating homework for the week

Skills Groups

Skills groups provide participants with the opportunity to learn and practice skills in a classroom setting with support and encouragement from each other.  Skills Groups start with a mindfulness exercise, homework review and discussion, followed by new material being taught, and then ends with a wind down and observations.  If you are interesting in attending Skills Group only, you must have an individual therapist outside of Chattanooga DBT.

Cost: $60 per group [self-pay]

Can also file with BCBS, Cigna, and UHC if applicable (cost will vary depending on the specific plan]

Current Groups:

Adult Skills Group: Mondays 6pm - 7:30pm (WAITLIST)

Advanced DBT Skills Group: Friday 5pm-6pm

Phone Coaching

You know that moment when life goes sideways and you really need to talk to your therapist?  Well guess what? In DBT you get to! In fact, we need you to. In those really hard moments we can coach you through using all those skills you've been learning and how they can help you create a life you love.  A typical phone coaching call lasts about 10-15 minutes and we usually want to know what skills you've already started to use.

Adult DBT Services
are comprised of four parts:

Consultation Team

Our providers meet weekly as a team to motivate one another, seek and share guidance, manage the high stress and potential burnout that often comes with treating clients at high risk of suicide, and hold each other accountable to the guiding principles of DBT.

At Chattanooga DBT, we conceptualize our DBT program as a community of therapists treating a community of clients.
